Context and Requirements
At the end of 2020, through a friend, we connected with singer Tuan Hung and were honored to design and build his personal studio in a luxury villa in Bang Lang area, Vinhomes Long Bien.
Studio renovated from an old bedroom, rarely used in the family. Due to the design of the bedroom, the room does not have the slightest advantage when being converted into a professional recording studio. But changing rooms is not possible.
Singer Tuan Hung plans to record his voice here and send it to mix elsewhere. He wanted the sound quality to be good enough to do the job, but to keep as much of the usable space as possible and arrange some household items inside the studio.
Therefore, we have to try to do all we can within the allowed limits to ensure the functionality of using singer Tuan Hung.
Solutions by ISS Acoustics
The entire hip wall area compared to the studio’s technical desk is covered by the ISS’s thin sound absorption system. This system is in charge of the fundamental frequency range of 100-20,000 Hz.
In front of the technical table, initially a PVC Composite wall decorated with convex spokes. We removed this entire PVC wall and arranged a better quality sound absorption system instead to fully handle the human vocal response from 60-20,000 Hz.
In order to prevent the room from being too dry causing discomfort during long use, we designed a diffuser that diffuses the sound from 450-3,500 Hz. This diffuser system is special in that, in addition to sound diffusion, it can absorb low-mid to make the sound of the clean room more clear.
Results & Feedback of Singer Tuan Hung
Room sound quality is as expected. Voice, vocals are clean, natural and thick. The fact that singer Tuan Hung proudly shares the room on his personal Facebook also speaks volumes about his satisfaction.
The studio was photographed when it was just completed, without equipment and furniture set up. Therefore, you can see 2 tables placed on either side of the diffuser system in the middle. When going into official operation, singer Tuan Hung only used one and placed the table in the center of the diffuser to ensure the correct sound as recommended by ISS Acoustics.
The painting on the ceiling and the white door was also hand-painted by him.
